Imizuzu emihlanu noTaadi Modipa


Igama lami nginguTaadi Modipa. Ngazalwa ngesikhathi sobandlululo ngo-1972 emaphandleni ase-Naboomkopies esifundazweni sasePolokwane, eNingizimu Afrika. Ubaba wami umPedikanti umama wami umXhosa. Ulimi lwami lwebele isiPedi kodwa ekhaya sikhuluma isiPedi, isiXhosa, isiZulu kanye nesiNgisi.

Mina ngikhuluma isiPedi, isiXhosa, isiZulu, isiNgisi, isiBhunu kanye nesiTsonga. Ulwazi lwami lwesiZulu lwenza kwaba lula ukuqonda nokuxoxa nabantu abakhuluma isiSwati nesiNdebele. Ulwazi lwesiPedi lwenza kwaba lula ukuqonda nokuxoxa nabakhuluma isiTswana kanye nesiSuthu.

Ngiyazi uyazibuza ukuthi ngizazi kanjani zonke lezi zilimi. Nansi indaba yami. Ngazalwa ngikhubazeke izinyawo zombili (club feet). Umtholampilo wangakithi wawumncane futhi ungenazo izinsiza ezazizongelekelela ngokukhubazeka enganginakho. Umama wami wadela umuzi, umshado kanye nezingane zakhe, wayongifunela usizo lokwelashwa ezibhedlela zaseGoli. Safika eGoli sazinza elokishini elibizwa ngokuthi kuKwaThema, ngakhulela khona. Elokishini-ke sasakhelene nabantu abakhuluma izilimi ezahlukahlukene. Ukuxoxisana ngezilimi ezahlukahlukene nezinye izingane esikoleni kanye nasekudlaleni nazo kwakuyinto ejwayelekile.

Isikole esasiseduze nasekhaya sasifundisa isiZulu. Lokhu kwakusiphoqa ukuthi noma ngabe umndeni wakho ukhuluma luphi olunye ulimi, ufunde isiZulu njengolimi lokuqala. Egumbini lokufundela sasisebenzisa isiZulu, bese kuthi  ngaphandle sisebenzise zonke ezinye izilimi. Kuze kube manje ulimi engicabanga ngalo, engikhululekile ukukhuluma kanye nokubhala ngalo isiZulu.


Umsebenzi wami wokuqala

Ngaqala ukusebenza ezinhlanganweni ezincane ezisebenzisana nemiphakathi ukuze izithuthukise. Iningi labantu esasisebenza nabo kwakungabantu abadala, abanemfundo ephansi noma abangafundile, abantulayo nabangasebenzi – kodwa ababehlakaniphile futhi benezindlela zokuziphilisa.

Okwakungidabukisa kwakungukubanona bengakwazi ukufunda izincwadi, amaphephandaba nemithetho kanye nezimpawu zomgwaqo. Babengakwazi ukubhala besayina ngezithupha. Lokhu kwangikhuthaza ukuthi ngihlanganise umsebenzi wami wentuthuko yomphakathi nokufundisa abantu abadala.

Abantu abadala abafundi njengezingane. Kanti abanaso isikhathi esiningi sokuhlala bafunde. Ukuze babe netshisekelo yokufunda sasisebenzisa izinkinga nezinselelo ezazisemphakathini namasu okuzixazulula ukubafundisa ukubhala nokufunda.

Ngo-Learn with Echo

Iprojekthi ebizwa ngokuthi yi-Learn with Echo yasungulwa ngonyaka ka-1990 yamiswa ngo-2014 ngenxa yokuntuleka kwezimali zokuyikhiqiza. Yasungulelwa ukulekelela abantu abadala abangamaZulu ababengaqedile imfundo yamabanga aphansi, ukuze babe nekhono lokufunda nokubhala.

Iphephandaba lokufundisa elibizwa ngokuthi yi-Learn with Echo lalikhiqizwa yi-Centre for Adult Education, eNyuvesi yakwaKwaZulu-Natali eseMgungundlovu.

Njalo ngoLwesine kwakuphuma amakhophi ayi-60 000 e-Learn with Echo ihlangene ne-Echo phakathi kwephephandaba i-The Witness. Amakhophi ayi-3000 e-Learn with Echo ayethunyelwa ngeposi ezindaweni zasemaphandleni kanye nasezikoleni zemfundo yabadala. Yayibuye isetshenziswe othisha ezikoleni njengensiza zokufundisa izingane.

I-Learn with Echo inamakhasi amane abhalwe ngesiZulu kanye nesiNgisi esilula.

Umsebenzi wami kwa-Learn with Echo kwakungukubhala, ukwenza ucwaningo ngezihloko esasibhala ngazo, ukuthwebula izithombe, ukuhumusha isiZulu noma isiNgisi, ukwakha nokuhlela indlela i-Learn with Echo eyayizophuma ngayo masonto onke kanye nokwenza inhlolovo nabafundi bethu kane ngonyaka.

Ngangiwubona umehluko owawulethwa yi-Learn with Echo ezimpilweni zabantu, kodwa okwakungigculisa kakhulu izincwadi ababesibhalela zona besimisa idolo ngemuva kokumiswa kwephephandaba lethu. Abanye babecela ukuthi silibuyise. Ukufunwa kwaleli phephandaba ngabantu kwenza sinqume ukufaka onke amakhasi esiwakhiqize kusukela ngo-1990 kuze kube ngu-2014 kwi-inthanethi. Ngale ndlela sinethemba lokuthi lisazosetshenziswa manje naphakade.

Uma ungazazi wena, ungayazi indabuko yakho, ungalwazi ulimi lwakho lwendabuko, uzokwazi kanjani okwabanye? Ulimi lwendabuko luyisisekelo sakho konke ukufunda kanye nentuthuko yabantu. Kubalulekile ukuqala ngalo ukufunda nokubhala, lube umgogodla wayo yonke enye imfundo umuntu ayitholayo. Kubalulekile futhi ukuze izilimi zabantu zendabuko zingashabalali futhi bangalahlekelwa imvelaphi yabo.

Ngokudlondlobala kobuchwepheshe bokuxhumana obunjengama inthanethi silahlekelwa izilimi zethu zendabuko. Ulimi oluhamba phambili isiNgisi, kanti baningi abantu abangasazi. Kubalulekile ukuthi ulimi olunjengesiZulu lusetshenziswe kuyona yonke imikhakha yempilo ukuze kube khona ukuxhumana okucacile phakathi kwabantu. Abantu bakwazi ukuthola ulwazi, babambe iqhaza ekwakhiweni kwemithetho, bathole ulwazi ngokwenzeka emhlabeni. Ukuba khona kwemithombo enjengo Oxford Living Dictionaries kusinika ithuba lokubamba iqhaza ekugcineni izilimi zethu zendabuko kanye nasekuzisebenziseni njengezilimi ezibalulekile.
